Stone quarry project CONCERN PDF Print E-mail

The three year project agreement with NGO CONCERN has come to an end. Over these three years the project has made significant results. 300 children who work at the stone quarry have been able to join school and in addition awareness on the importance of education and on the negative effects of child labor have been very much effective. The children at Balaju contact center recently changed their daily routine since the Dutch dentists paid them a visit. The children now brush their teeth after their daily meal as they learnt from the Dutch Dentists how to do this in a proper way. The teachers also pay more attention to hygiene and learn the children how important it is to wash their hands before they eat.

Children's Home ‘Mero Niwas’ Barhabise PDF Print E-mail

23-FIFON_tato_pani_uitje_groepsfotoThe children of 'Mero Newas' were lucky as they went on two excursions; one in November and the other one in December. Cross Border  volunteers Lex and François from the Netherlands took the children and the caretakers to the hot spring ‘tato pani’ (means: hot water) in November. ‘Tato pani’ is a natural hot spring on the border of Tibet and it is just 26 KM from Barhabise away. It is believed that the water at ‘tato pani’ can cure arthritics and skin diseases. Either way, it is definitely nice for the children to get a hot shower during the cold winter months in Nepal! So it was a big success.

Kathmandu, November 2010

Tandartsen team Dhading 2010After a few months of preparation the Dutch dentist team; Geertje van den Aardweg, Paul Bernhard Janse,  Guus Goyarts (dentists), Marleen de Wolf (dental hygienist),  Inge Meijek and Lenoor Koning (assistants) finally arrived in Kathmandu on November the 7th.

It was the first time for SVN to organize a dentist health camp so we didn’t really know what to expect. But the Dutch dentist team was very clear about this: to treat as many people as possible and to give demonstrations on how to take care of your teeth and how to brush them in a proper way.
