Kathmandu - Nepal,  June 2011

Dear everyone,

we would like to give you an update before the summer holiday begins!

All is going well here in Nepal, although we have had a few (politically) unstable weeks with strikes, road blocks and fuel shortages. Also the heavy, spectacular monsoon rains have started which have created some damage at Hamro Gaun.

2-boerenAlthough the monsoon rains sometime cause severe damage, they are of course very good for the farmers and their land. The farmers are now very busy rice planting. It makes a beautiful sight. Benjamin van Ooij, volunteer at Hamro Gaun, is also working hard in our garden using the 'permaculture' principle.

Dhading PDF Print E-mail

27-Dhading_workshop_healthwokers_Elly_toneelstuk_wrong_attitudeThe health centers in Dhading have been running for a while and the health workers are now used to the work they have to do there. Cross Borders volunteer, Elly Kerkvliet, suggested organizing a workshop on the behaviour and attitude of a health worker as the girls are quite young and sometimes behave as girls of their age do, which understandably, is a very normal!

Contact Center Balaju PDF Print E-mail

Cross Borders volunteer, Gonny van Genderen, has been working at Balaju for the last couple of months. So far, Gonny has been the oldest volunteer at Balaju, where the children all called her 'Oma' (which means grandmother in Dutch). We thank Gonny for her time and support, and for the nice time she gave the children, and of course, for the fun outing she organized to the zoo.

Partner NGOs: Empowerment PDF Print E-mail
44-Empowerment_NGO_Shyama_balaju_computer_courseIn addition to only focus on the work involved in a project, Stichting Veldwerk concerns itself with the project coordinators who actually implement the programmes. This is important as our aim is to make the local NGOs as independent as possible. For example, to achieve this goal SVN recently organized a workshop on manual accounting, see here for a report.

Scholarship programme EFF PDF Print E-mail
48-EFF_Princika_Lama_pictureWe usually send the students of the scholarship programme, who live close to each other, to the same schools. This has our preference, as we have become well known in these particular schools and have good contacts with the teachers. The schools are well acquainted with the EFF programme and see the face of our field worker, Abishek, quite regularly! The good contacts help to keep the programme running smoothly, but that other positive effects would be generated has come as a great surprise.

Last but not least, I would like to thank 'Stichting Voetprints voor Nepal' and 'Meneer Vermeer tuinen' for their activities to raise money for Stichting Veldwerk.
