The monsoon is almost finished, but it also caused a lot of mud- floods this year, unfortunately creating many victims. Within the projects of Stichting Veldwerk we have the floods pretty much under control, although we also received an unexpected heavy shower, which caused a lot of damage (and fear).

Next year our children's home already exists for 10 years and the last (disabled) children are slowly entering the home, to reach the total number of 50 orphans. That is a big family, which comes with big concerns to keep everything going smoothly. The disabled children are from mountain villages and have never seen a doctor before, so we need to give a lot attention to that too now.
Pemba Tamang is 9 years old and has growth problems in his spine, with the threat of growing completely skewed. In the hospital he recently underwent a heavy surgery

Marjon Janmaat from Alkmaar visited us in Hamro Gaun. She helped with painting the farm for a few days together with Inge Hoekstra. But Marjon also brought dolls from the foundation "Stichting Twin Bears.nl". This foundation does a special campaign with self-made twin dolls. 'Twins are very special. While one twin goes home with you, the other twin travels to a child that has nothing'.

Our Eco village is almost finished now, although the last bits are still pretty tough. The farm has got its nice roof of rockstone tiles and is ready for a bit of paint and last finishing touch. But all the builders went home for the big festival, so the work has to wait a little bit.

The Daycare center in Chitwan |
On the 8th of August the two teachers, Saraswati Wasti en Shraddha Mahato , of the daycare center in Chitwan followed the five day course of the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC).
The ECEC course trains the teachers to teach in a creative, interactive and playful way. The teachers also received a box full of educational materials to use in their lessons. Stichting Veldwerk has been working with ECEC for a long time now and we are very enthusiastic about their method. Please look for more information about this organization on their website www.earlychildhoodnepal.org

Renovating also in Dhading, as the corrugated iron plated roof was blown away by a heavy monsoon storm. The school was also too small so two extra classrooms needed to be built. This was enough reason for Stichting Veldwerk to support this school with a big make-over

Scholarship programme Education First Foundation |
Education is a high priority in the work of Stichting Veldwerk, because literacy is in our opinion the only way to escape from the cycle of poverty. And we are being confirmed in this with the Millennium goal number 2. For this reason we have set up the Education First Foundation which is currently helping 165 children from very poor families in receiving education, through the support of Dutch and Belgian donors.

The third training of the goat keeping project took place on the 27th, 28th and 29th of August and of course we went to see it with our own eyes on the last day. This is always lots of fun because then there are always lots of young goats together waiting for their new boss. And the women there are very happy with the chance they get for improving their standard of living. For more information about the project please have a look here.

Our child of 10 years ago is Prabina, also called Bono. Bono turned 10 years old recently, because she entered the home being a baby of 6 months old. And now Prabina is a "big girl" with a shining smile on her face and an unstoppable energy.

And recently Veldwerk as foundation already existed 12.5 years. "Good reason for a party" you would say, but we decided not to, the "the crisis" in the West is also still very noticeable for us. And with last handicapped children the costs have risen greatly, but the incomes are not rising with these costs, so something needs to happen. The board of Stichting Veldwerk in Heiloo has a really interesting presentation about Nepal and the projects we have there. The board is ready to deliver a very fascinating lecture for your organization or club. If interested please contact Fred for an appointment: 072-5070599.
For now, greetings from "a bit shaky" Kathmandu.
