Hamro Gaun eco dorp is now official open! Just before the opening the boys moveSinterklaas_hamro_gaun_1d to their new hostel; the girls will follow soon.  During the construction we gradually operationalized the children’s home, the organic and mushroom farm as well as the training programme for woman and a school for marginalized children in the neighborhood, which performs above all expectation over the last past two years. You can imagine that there was a whole lot to see at the opening. At the opening we hosted 80 visitor from the Netherlands amongst them family & friends from Heiloo and friends from Foundation Fieldwork. With their own eyes they could see what we achieved over the last years. Their response acknowledged that we accomplished something special.

By a fundraising effort “Books for library” for our children’s homes we collected 3.700 Euros. The library shines as never before and the children enjoy the beautiful books and informative collections.

BOEKDuring the preparations for the opening of Hamro Gaun we came up with the idea to ask people, who wanted to present us a gift, to make a sustainable contribution. With the campaign: ‘Books for Library’ we aimed to make a start for a small library. As things started rolling by the end we received 3.700 Euros for purchasing books. Besides books the gift also allowed us to decorated and refurbish a study room in the main building. We wish to express our gratitude to all of you for your contribution, especially to Leny and Will from IPW who raised half of the money!

No words but books this time!

6 Day Care Centres in Dhading opened PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 December 2009 15:23

At the daycare center children from marginalized families receive free ‘non forDhading_ambulance_3mal’ education. These children do not have the oppertunity, or often access, to go to school. Education is a way to reduce poverty so it is important that every child goes to school to have the opportunity to develop him- or herself.

At the  moment around 40 children per daycare center (in total six) now attend the daycare centers. The maximum capacity of every center is 50 children, which we think we will reach this coming year. Besides education we also want to provide a daily lunch because:

In cooperation with local partner ngo CONCERN, we started this prosteentjes_project_kids_in_schooluniform_in_klasject in 2007 to reduce child labor and to provide access to education for children who were already working in the stone quarries. In addition, many activities with these children and the local community are held to create awareness on the importance of education and to discuss the effects and consequents of child labor.

We are now heading for our final year. The following overview gives the results achieved up till now:

Ramita PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 December 2009 15:25

Ramita is a girl of 15 and was sexually harassed by her teacher at school. When she told her classmates about this, it seemed that she was not the only one. The girls decided to bring  a court case, but they were put under such high pressure that everyone pulled back except Ramita. Ramita and her family were threatened and abused for a while. Sexual offence is still a big taboo and therefore no institute was willing to support Ramita. However we did support her and found her the right protection and aid. Now we would like to see Ramita enjoying her life again as a 15- year old girl should.

The Salverda family, as well as Anneke Holweg and Rob Wensing made it possible for Ramita  to receive the right aid and she is now able to finish secondary school and has her food and lodging paid for her. This is of course terrific and gives Ramita the chance to be a teenager again.
