The projects in the Kavre
district are focused on reducing child labour and income generation for marginalized women.
Stone Quarry project
A few hundred children are being removed out of the stone quarries and guided stepwise in to formal education. In addition, the parents of these children are supported in improving their household economies and the formal education facilities are upgraded. Finally, child clubs and children saving centres strengthen the position of the working children in the area.
The public schools in the area are supported as well to improve their infrastructure and education to make this transition sustainable. A number of the children will furthermore receive vocational training.
This project is aimed to serve as a pilot for a larger scale project in order to decrease the 1,6 million children that are exposed to heavy labour on a daily base in Nepal.
The women group in Kavre is using community land to grow coffee and fruit trees that are distributed amongst the participants. in this way, the women can learn how to grow goods that can be sold on the local market. In a later stage, the women will be trained in processing the coffee and fruit as well.
