There is a high percentage of disabled people within the rural areas of Nepal due to the lack of basic healthcare.  Often, these could have been prevented if the people would have received appropriate treatment at the right times. The present facilities are often not sufficient or even none existing which means that people have to cover long distances to receive the treatment they need. A good example is the Dhading district, where hundreds of thousands of people can only be hospitalized into one district hospital with 16 beds.

Especially the women in these areas are suffering from the lack of supporting facilities. This causes too many women and children to die during delivery and a lot of gynaecological problems amongst women. SVN tries to intervene in this by the establishment of health posts, public toilets & washing places en delivery rooms. Beside this, there are family planning programs in which the effect of multiple childbirth are explained to families and people can opt to have a cooking stove installed to remove open fire and smoke from their kitchen.
