Fourth goat training WHR PDF Print E-mail

On the 6th, 7th and 8th of December the fourth and last goat training programme of 2011 took place. This was organized in cooperation with the ‘single women group’ and 25 women (widows) received the training and both got two goats to bring home. The women will have to return two goats to another woman. In this way the programme reaches more women. In 2011 108 women finished the training with success and 94 women received two goats (some already had received goats before but no training). In the meantime 50 goats have also already been returned to other women in the area. So it is a big success!

This has all been made possible by the great support of Leny and Will of Boerderij de Ruimte, Simon Peek Juweliers, ASS Boekenfonds, Dr. J.A. Noordijk stichting and Pauline Brune of Nepal Handworks! Uitgeverij Angerenstein already gave their financial contribution for the 5th goat training. Due to the big success in Sindhupalchowk the next training will be held in Dhading, to also give the women there a chance to become more social and economical independent.

The vocational training is an important part to create independency for disadvantaged women. One of the main problems women face is that they never have had the opportunity to learn a profession with which they can maintain themselves. Girls and women lack in standard education because the little money that people have is first invested in boys. SVN gives these women an opportunity to, through monitoring of vocational training, obtain a certificate with which they can find a job, earn money and take care of themselves and their children. SVN ensures that these women can work towards an independent existence.

SVN is supporting three projects now:

Kavre
Lamosango near the Tibetan border
Chitwan in the east part of Nepal

Awareness PDF Print E-mail

Awareness could be considered one of the buzz words within the field of development work. Nonetheless, if conducted in the right way, it can serve as a stable base to place development initiatives upon. This is why awareness activities are included in all our programs. This is aimed to increase awareness on (reproductive) health, raising children, care for livelihoods and empowerment. The awareness programs conducted by SVN can be categorized as: sustainable use of livelihoods and environment, empowerment, health and sanitation and income generation.
